Students Need Access To A Desktop Computer

If you have a college student, a desktop computer can be one of the best tools that you can give that student. The desktop offers easier upgrades and functionality than a laptop at a lower price.

When connected to the internet, the desktop computer allows the student to do much of his or her research for all those term papers. While it is possible for the student to do some research in the library, and some courses will require at least a couple of real sources, much of the most up to date research is found using the internet and on line searches.

One of the greatest uses of the home computer for the student is for word processing. The word processor allows the student to write the paper and put it into a perfect presentation form. Most modern word processors also offer spell check and grammar check to catch many misspelled words or other grammatical errors. Of course, nothing takes the place of a critical final reading of the paper to make sure that the correct words are used in the right places.

For oral presentations, Power Point is a useful program. This program allows the student to prepare slides that can be organized for his presentation. The entire Power Point presentation can be saved to a USB drive to transport to the classroom for the speech. Most college classrooms today have will allow the student to insert his drive and make a presentation using these very professional looking slides.

Communication is made easier for the student using the computer. In fact, many of today’s courses are presented on line. Students attend lectures at their own convenience on line and participate in on line discussion. Assignments are made and homework is returned to the professor without the student ever entering a classroom. Exams are administered on the computer and term papers are e-mailed to the professor.

The world back home is much closer thanks to VOIP phones and e-mail. While still no guarantee that Junior will call home other than to ask for money, the computer can make a great way to keep in touch with parents as well as friends that are attending other universities.

A desktop computer offers great value to a student. The desktop is much less expensive than the same size laptop computer. In addition, if the computer needs upgrades or repair, you will find that these are much more affordable for the desktop than the laptop. The computer can even give the student a time to relax and play a few games.
