Assignments are made and homework is returned to the professor without the student ever entering a classroom. Exams are administered on the computer and term papers are e-mailed to the professor.
The world back home is much closer thanks to VOIP phones and e-mail. While still no guarantee that Junior will call home other than to ask for money, the computer can make a great way to keep in touch with parents as well as friends that are attending other universities.
A desktop computer offers great value to a student. The desktop is much less expensive than the same size laptop computer. In addition, if the computer needs upgrades or repair, you will find that these are much more affordable for the desktop than the laptop.
